Cleaning a dry clean only sofa? | |
I know there has to be some way to clean the marks and smudges off my sofa, but how? The tag labled it "dry clean only", it's a fake suede material. Anyone know of any methods or products I can use?
Answers:
1Just about all fabrics are marked "dry clean only." That way, the manufacturer has someone to blame if anything goes wrong. Try steam cleaning on the back of the couch that doesn't show...if all goes well, do the whole couch. Just don't let the fabric or cusions get soaked. Use fans to dry. If it isn't clean enough, repeat only after the couch has fully dried. Good luck

the problem is most marks on sofas are mixed with oils from people who sit on them. these marks are very difficult if not impossible to remove with out using an emulsifying agent which has to be washed out. many soap powders contain small amounts of these agents, but washing the covers will shrink them or take the colour and badly crease them. treating an isolated stain on imitation suede will BE noticable. dry cleaning is your only option. its safe and your covers will be clean as the drycleaning solvent removes grease and oils. l
