dishwasher stains on metal pate knives.

I cannot remove the stains on these fancy metal pate knives... there is no notation of its qualities... I do not think it is stainless steel... i think there is a brass content in them... I used a liquid sunlight soap in a Sears stainless steel dishwasher and they came out covered in stains and filmy spots. what can be used. not knowing what the metal is..?????
