How to clean gypsum walls and ceilings?

If you are the proud owner of gypsum walls or ceilings, you have probably come across the problem of how to clean them. Bare gypsum has been a rather strong and durable surface throughout the history; however, it does not like too much water. As gypsum walls are usually covered with paint, you should only remember not to rub too hard and not to use strong chemicals for cleaning to avoid accidental scrubbing off of paint (Note: if the paint you used is water-based, you should not wash large surfaces with water.) There are also special machines available used to clean various surfaces including gypsum to exempt you from manual cleaning. Here are some useful tips for cleaning:

-     Use a nylon cloth (e.g. socks) instead of a sponge as nylon will not leave any small pieces.

-         If you are cleaning the walls of old wallpaper and wallpaper paste, it is recommended to use hot water and a sponge adding a little vinegar.

-         Sometimes it is easier to repaint the walls to cover the flaws instead of cleaning.

-         If you need to clean your gypsum walls or ceilings of old paint, simply scrub it off with the relevant tools and if you are planning to repaint the surfaces apply putty where necessary, and abrade the surfaces of excessive putty after it has properly dried. Now the surface is ready to be repainted.
